Do you, or someone you know, have expertise in disability-related therapies? PRDA is currently recruiting members for a Program Advisory Committee to help us ensure we are doing our best in meeting the needs of riders with a range of challenges.

We already have a physio/occupational therapist, a physiotherapist and a physician on board. We are currently seeking volunteers with a background in speech-language pathology, child development,  Applied Behavioural Analysis, play therapy, and behaviour managment.

If you know someone who fits the bill, please speak with Bill or Judi, Volunteer Coordinators, next time you visit PRDA or call or email them:

NEW YEAR, NEW LESSON FORMAT

If you ride or volunteer at PRDA you know that the way lessons are scheduled has changed a little bit this winter. Instead of one hour lessons with up to four riders per class, lessons are now 30 minutes in length with only two riders at a time. This change is designed to enable PRDA to operate more efficiently by serving more riders, improving the quality of the lesson through greater individual attention from the instructor, and address the need to increase our revenue to sustain our programs into the future. We know money is tight for everyone - that's why we opted to condense the lessons to make room for more riders instead of increasing fees. We want to make sure that everyone who can benefit from riding at PRDA has the opportunity to do so. We've already added more than 20 riders to the program and thanks to the new schedule, there's room for more!

Thank you to all those who have helped make this change work. From the volunteers who altered their schedules to meet the new times to the riders who have been arriving on time ready to ride, everyone has made the implementation of the new schedule work better than we imagined it could! THANK YOU!

Alex backstage at The Mane EventPRDA at the Mane Event!

PRDA had a great time in October hosting a booth at The Mane Event, a demonstration and trade show for horse lovers. Alex (in picture) starred in a demonstration of a typical therapeutic riding class, with PRDA rider  Rachel Whitmore acting as a beginner rider complete with sidewalker and leader. As Michelle Meacher (Program Manager) commentated, Rachel and Alex showed the audience how our riders can progress to riding - and even competing - independently. Volunteers and staff had a fun weekend and plan to be there again this year. Plan to join us!

Linus ASK LINUS

Dear Linus,
I saw Banner eating a banana the other day. Do all horses like bananas?

Signed: Cheeky Monkey
Dear Cheeky  Monkey,
No, not all horses like bananas. It is true that Banner likes bananas and I hear that Thunder likes them, too.  Most horses prefer carrots, apples and horse cookies as treats. Miniature horses like me LOVE baby carrots. You can bring me baby carrots any time! Love, Linus.

 Meet Jewel, Try Vaulting!

Jewel is the newest addition to the PRDA family. She is an 11-year chestnut Paint with virtually no white markings! Jewel has settled in well, and we hope to have her in classes in the near future. Next time you are in the barn, say hi to her - she's a sweetheart! Jewel is also in training to be PRDA's first vaulting horse! If you would like more information about vaulting, ask your instructor.
